One highlight in every Two Pony season is the Y.E.L.L. (Youth Environmental Literacy and Law) Project. The kids come out to the farm with their teachers to learn about important issues concerning our food system. We discuss and observe bio-diversity, the natural world, pollinators, compost, healthy eating as well as the magic of being outside and working together.
The 6th, 7th and 8th graders from Southside Family School broaden their understanding of how food is grown. They learn about our systems, they explore the land, taste different things we've grown and get their hands dirty as often as possible. As part of a standing Y.E.L.L. tradition, we'll plant the Three Sisters garden together in the spring. A great teaching tool, we will continue to learn from this garden as we tend it and watch it grow throughout the season. Look for the Three Sisters under the tipi poles when you come to visit! In 2020 we are growing one enormous pumpkin in that sacred spot! |
